STI Falls 0.37% to 5,403.50 as Seatrium Slides 4.64%, DFI Retail Leads Advancers

· Longbridge Singapore

The Straits Times Index fell 19.83 points, or 0.37%, to close at 5,403.50 on Thursday, after trading as low as 5,362.72 and as high as 5,411.60 during the session. Decliners outnumbered advancers 19 to 8 across the 30-member basket, with three names unchanged, as losses concentrated in marine, offshore and industrial names outweighed gains led by DFI Retail and UOB.

The session's weakest names were clustered in the marine and offshore sector: Seatrium, Keppel, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding and Venture each fell more than 2%, even as reports through the week continued to position Seatrium and Keppel's 25MW-to-30MW floating offshore data-centre projects as part of a broader Singapore-Japan-South Korea race expected to be worth tens of billions of dollars by 2027-2028 — a longer-term theme that did not prevent Thursday's pullback. Singapore's three local banks diverged again, as they have through much of the past week: UOB advanced while DBS and OCBC lagged, extending a pattern in which Southeast Asian bank shares have broadly been under pressure since early October on valuation and deposit-competition concerns.

Session Movers

DFI Retail (D01.SG, +2.15%) was the basket's best performer, rising to $3.32 after disclosing a round of board appointments — Shin Hwee Chua as an independent non-executive director and audit committee member, Achal Agarwal joining the remuneration committee and Alia Gogi joining the nominations committee — changes the company framed as strengthening governance and strategic execution. The update followed DBS's October 12 reaffirmed Buy rating and $4.50 target, with broader consensus at Strong Buy and a $4.98 target implying roughly 50% upside. DFI Retail trades at 11.28 times earnings, cheaper than 58% of the past three years.

Seatrium (5E2.SG, -4.64%) was the worst performer in the 30-name basket, falling to $1.85 even as the company continued to be cited this week alongside Keppel in reports on Singapore's push into floating offshore data centres. There was no fresh negative disclosure tied to Thursday's drop, which was more than double the next-steepest decline in the basket. Seatrium trades at 0.89 times book, cheaper than 99.6% of the past year; consensus rates it Buy with a $2.51 target implying 35.6% upside.

UOB (U11.SG, +1.53%) rose to $41.69, the only one of the three local banks to advance on Thursday, after confirming it will release third-quarter results on November 4 and a day after raising its 2026 GDP growth forecast for Vietnam to 9.2% on strong industrial and construction activity. The gain extended Wednesday's pattern in which UOB was the sole bank to close higher; DBS fell 0.79% and OCBC was little changed on Thursday. UOB trades at 1.37 times book, above its fair-value range; consensus rates it Hold with a $43.30 target implying 3.87% upside.

ST Engineering (S63.SG, -1.54%) fell to $10.25 with no fresh disclosure on Thursday, giving back part of its recent advance following last week's announcement that it will open a Transparency Centre in Singapore in the first quarter of 2027 to offer independent security and cybersecurity assessments for autonomous vehicles, drones and other cyber-physical systems, and the October 9 opening of its S$170 million Changi Creek maintenance facility, expected to lift MRO capacity by 40%. ST Engineering trades at 56.76 times earnings, the richest multiple in the basket; consensus still rates it Buy with an $11.73 target implying 14.48% upside.

One point worth noting

Thursday's breadth tally — 19 decliners, 8 advancers and three unchanged — exactly matched Tuesday's count, yet the two sessions produced opposite index outcomes: Tuesday's identical split still lifted the STI 0.28%, with gains concentrated in Hongkong Land and the banks, while Thursday's matching tally coincided with a 0.37% decline. The repeat breadth with a reversed direction points to how much this week's index moves have hinged on which handful of large-weight stocks led, rather than on how broadly the market participated.
